বৃটিশ শাসন নেই, নেই জমিদারের দুর দমনীয় প্রতাপ, শুধু আছে তাদের স্মৃতি বিচরিত কীর্তি। তেমনি একটি স্থাপত্য নিদর্শন হলো মির্জাপুর মহেড়া জমিদার বাড়ি। টাংগাইল সদর থেকে প্রায় ২০ কিলোমিটার পূর্ব দক্ষিনে এবং মির্জাপুর উপজেলা সদর থেকে প্রায় ১০ কিলোমিটার পশ্চিমে অবস্থিত মহেড়া জমিদার বাড়ি। মহেড়া জমিদার বাড়ি কালের সাক্ষি হয়ে দাড়িয়েছে জমিদারদের শাসন ও শেষনের ইতিহাস নিয়ে। এই জমিদার বাড়িতে রয়েছে সু-বিশাল ৩টি প্রধান ভবন। সাথে রয়েছে কাচারী ঘর, নায়েব সাহেবের ঘর, গোস্থাদের ঘর, প্রার্থনার জন্য মন্দির এবং জমিদারদের দাস-দাসিদের থাকার জন্য কয়েকটি ঘর। ভবন গুলোতে রয়েছে সু উচ্চ প্রাচীর। বাড়িতে প্রবেশের জন্য রয়েছে ২টি প্রবেশ দ্বার। সামনে রয়েছে গোসল করার জন্য বিশাল দীঘি। প্রতœতত্ত্ব বিশেষজ্ঞের মতে ভবন গুলোর নির্মান শৈলী রোমান, মোঘল, সিন্দুদের সাথে মিল রয়েছে। চুন শূরকী আর ইটের সমন্বয়ে ভবন গুলোর কারুকাজ যে কোন দর্শনাথীর মন কেনে নেয়। এই বর্ষা মৌসুমে হাজারো ফুলের মেলা দেখতে চলুন ঘুরে আসি মহেড়া জমিদার বাড়ি। অপরুপ সাঁজে সাজানো এই জমিদার বাড়িতে প্রায় প্রতিদিনই চলে বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের পিকনিক এবং বিভিন্ন নাটক বা ছবির শুটিং। ব্যবস্থাপনার স্বার্থে এখানে প্রবেশের শুভেচ্ছা মূল্য মাত্র ৮০ টাকা। পিকনিক বা শুটিং স্পট ভাড়া দেওয়া হয় আলোচনা সাপেক্ষে। আর খাবার ও পানীয়ের জন্য আছে স্বল্প মূল্যের ক্যান্টিন সুবিধা। আগেই অর্ডার দিলে আপনার পছন্দের মেন্যু অনুযায়ী যে কোন খাবার সরবরাহ করা হবে। তাহলে আর দেরী নয় চলুন আজই ঘুরে আসি। ও আপনি যদি জমিদার বাড়িতে পূর্ণিমা স্নান বা রাত্রীযাপন করতে চান তার জন্য এসি/নন এসি ডাক বাংলোর সুব্যবস্থা আছে। খুব সকালে এবং বিকেলে দেখতে পাবেন পুরুষ এবং মহিলা পুলিশের মাঠ প্রশিক্ষণ কসরত। বিশাখা সাগর সংলগ্ন দক্ষিণ পার্শ্বে বিশাল আ¤্র কানন। ফজলি, ল্যাংড়া, গোপালভোগসহ দেশী বিভিন্ন প্রজাতির আ¤্র বৃক্ষ শোভা পাচ্ছে। আ¤্র কানন ব্যতীত বর্তমান পিটিসি’র প্রায় ৪৪ একর জমিতে সর্বত্র ছড়িয়ে ছিটিয়ে আছে নানা বৈচিত্র্যময় ফলের সমারোহ। এর মধ্যে আম, কাঁঠাল, নারিকেল, ছবেদা, জলপাই, হরতকি ইত্যাদি ফল ও ঔষধি গাছ অন্যতম। সুবিশাল ফলজ বৃক্ষের সমারোহ ফুলে-ফলে, পত্র-পল্লবে মাতিয়ে রাখে এ প্রাঙ্গণ সারাটি বছর। নানা প্রজাতির ফুলের সমারোহ এবং সুগন্ধে দর্শকদের আকুল করে সারা বছর। শীতকালে এখানে হাজারো চেনা অচেনা ফুলে ফুলে প্রজাপতির মেলা বসে রোজ। সৌখিন ফটোগ্রাফারদের জন্য চমৎকার এক লোকেশন। দর্শনার্থীদের জন্য আছে কয়েকটি আকর্ষনীয় দোলনা এবং মাছ, পাখী, জীব-জন্তুর কৃত্তিম চিড়িয়াখানা। এছাড়াও বিশাখা সাগরে আছে নৌভ্রমনের জন্য অন্যতম আকর্ষণ সোনার তরী এবং সপ্তডিঙ্গা। অপরুপ স্থাপত্য আধুনিক শহীদ মিনার আপনাকে সামান্য সময়ের জন্য হলেও স্তম্ভিত করে দিবে।
ইতিহাস থেকে জানা যায় ১৮৯০ দশকের পূর্বে জমিদার বাড়ীটির পত্তন ঘটে। কালীচরণ সাহা ও আনন্দ সাহা নামে দুই ভাই কলকাতায় লবণ ও ডালের ব্যবসা করে প্রচুর টাকা পয়সা রোজগার করে চলে আসেন মহেড়া গ্রামে। মহেড়া গ্রামে তারা ১ হাজার ১৭৪ শতাংশ জমির ওপর এ সুবিশাল বাড়ীটি নির্মাণ করেন। দৃষ্টিনন্দন এই জমিদার বাড়ীর রয়েছে এক কলঙ্কিত স্মৃতি। ১৯৭১ সালের ১৪ই মে বাংলাদেশের মহান স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধের সময়ে পাকবাহিনী মহেড়া জমিদার বাড়ীতে হামলা করে এবং জমিদার বাড়ীর কূলবধূ যোগমায়া রায় চৌধুরীসহ পাঁচজন গ্রামবাসীকে চৌধুরী লজের মন্দিরের পেছনে একত্রে দাঁড় করিয়ে নির্মমভাবে গুলি করে হত্যা করে। তন্মধ্যে স্থানীয় প্রাইমারী স্কুলের শিক্ষক পন্ডিত বিমল কুমার সরকার, মনিন্দ্র কুমার চক্রবর্তী, অতুল চন্দ্র সাহা এবং নোয়াই বণিক ছিলেন। ইতিহাস কলঙ্কিত সেই রক্তের দাগ এখনো লেগে আছে মহেড়া জমিদার বাড়ীতে। যে দেশের জন্য, যে দেশের মানুষের জন্য মহেড়া জমিদার পরিবার নিজেদের শত প্রাচুর্য ভুলে এলাকার উন্নয়নে সর্বক্ষণ ব্যস্ত থাকতেন, সেই এলাকার রাজাকার আল-বদরদের প্রত্যক্ষ সহায়তায় পাকিস্তানী বাহিনীর এই চরম হত্যাযজ্ঞে জমিদার পরিবার শুধু হতাশ হননি, শত বছরের সাজানো জমিদার বাড়ী আর কোটি টাকার সম্পদ ফেলে চরম ঘৃণা আর ক্ষোভ নিয়ে লৌহজং নদীর নৌপথে নৌকা যোগে চলে যান বাংলাদেশ ছেড়ে। অতঃপর স্থানীয় মুক্তিযোদ্ধা কমান্ডার বায়েজীদ সাহেবের নেতৃত্বে এক প্লাটুন মুক্তিবাহিনী জমিদার বাড়ীতে মুক্তিবাহিনীর ক্যাম্প স্থাপন করে।
স্বাধীনতার পর থেকে বর্তমান পর্যন্ত এই অপরুপ নির্মন শৈলী পুলিশ ট্রেনিং সেন্টার হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হচ্ছে। তৎকালীন রাষ্টপতি বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবুর রহমানের স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী আব্দুল মান্নান পুলিশ ট্রেনিং সেন্টার টির আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন করেন।
